The Real Fight

And that all this assembly may know that the Lord saves not with sword or spear. For the battle is the Lord’s and he will give you into our hand.

1Samuel 17:47 ESV

If you think you know what’s going on in our world and culture you may be wrong.

I grew up in a part of the country that was filled with history. The battlefields of the Revolutionary War were literally in my backyard, and yet, as a young man, I was oblivious to that fact. I was the beneficiary of a war that had long been over, all the while living ignorantly in the countryside of its drama.

The fact of the matter is, that although the distance sound of the cannons had long been silenced, still the war rages on in our country. The struggle to be free of tyrannical leaders is still a present danger. But there is something even deeper than our current dilemma that needs to be revealed in order to see the real backstory in our present world. You see, the battleground is broader than imagined and one step away from the conflict will give us clearer eyes. The war that we are seeing in our culture today began long, long ago. The origin of the real struggle began even before Adam walked in the garden. What we are seeing in our world today are the consequences of a fight that began in the heavens.

With Adam’s first breath, unbeknown to him, he entered an ancient battleground. It was a backstory for the ages; a brief conflict, and it involved the rebellion of God’s chief archangel, Lucifer. Evil had a beginning and it was long before Eve ate the forbidden fruit. Who was this Lucifer character?

The name, Lucifer, means the Morning Star, or the one who brings light in the dawn of a new day. The chief archangel was glorious. His beauty, power and excellence far excelled all of the other angels until the day he rebelled. Having been cast out of heaven, down to the earth, to this present day he still wages war for the souls of men.

What we are witnessing in our world today is a distraction and it is nothing more than the ongoing struggle between good and evil; between God and Satan. Now before you ascribe good or evil to either political party, that is not what I’m talking about. The great struggle within our culture and world is for the souls of men. Political persuasions have nothing to do with this fight. If the true enemy, Satan, can blind the eyes of men and women, and cause them to be transfixed on this world, then he has gained a great victory.

In the struggle to build a stronger sandcastle, man has turned his back on the tsunami of eternity. Is the end of the world coming? Are these the last times? Well, of course they are. Your next breath could be the end of your world. Are you prepared for eternity? Do you know Jesus as your Savior? Fix your eyes on him and the nightly news will cease to turn your stomach into knots.
